In the year 2005 it was able to link up partnership with Oxfam GB in the Global Call To Action Against Poverty - White Band promotion project. The project objectives were:
1.The main policy issues at stake for Kenya, which were to be negotiated at the WTO Inter-Ministerial Conference-Hong Kong 13th-18th Dec 05. These included;
a)Kenya’s right to food security.
b)Agricultural and export subsidies that rich western governments (European Union, United States) give their farmers and producers and their harmful effects on local producers and farmers.
c)The dangers of blindly liberalizing basic social services e.g. water provision.
d)Putting human interest before that of the profits of multinational companies.
2. The ability to inform members of the public on these issues and what actions they could take to hold their government negotiators accountable to the positions that promote and protect the Kenyan economy, Kenyan poor producers and industries. This could to be done by the signing of a petition form at each of the Uchumi outlets.
3. Being able to manage a stall, sell and retain the proceeds from the sale of white bands and hand out information leaflets at the six participating Uchumi supermarket outlets.
