Since high school students make up the next generation of voters, politicians, humanitarians, and diplomats, it is essential for students to be aware of world issues concerning their future. Furthermore, since there is a lack of Comparative Government and Politics class and World History class at Cupertino High School, the Group gives students the chance to learn and advocate for UN campaigns, programs, and other matters. Students will also have the opportunity to travel to different places around the world as a group to participate in humanitarian missions, the annual MUN conferences in the UN Headquarters in New York City in addition to numerous statewide conferences. Through UNAUSA, students in eleventh grade will have the opportunity to apply to travel on a humanitarian mission through the HERO Campaign.
Unlike service clubs at Cupertino High School, the UNAUSA Cupertino Student Alliance Chapter will combine learning and simulating with service projects directed by the United Nations. An emphasis will be placed on education programs such as Model UN rather than simply volunteering. In addition, students will represent the UNAUSA Student Alliance on UN Day in the community by educating their peers and community members about issues concerning them and their future.
