Our hope is to establish a resource center in the province of Ancash. The resource centre will include free school supplies, art supplies, a small library, and a computer and printer. We would like to set up a youth run newsletter, who could use the resource centre as a place to write and print the final product.
This is an important project on several counts. Accessible school supplies addresses a basic shortage experienced by many children in Peru. These supplies can easily be donated by members of the Trinity community. SID volunteers can run pencil and paper drives etc. at Trin in order to become more involved in the college. In regards to the long term development of an overseas community, we hope that the access to art supplies and a small library will have an enriching role in inspiring children to learn and be creative.
Moreover, the computer provides the critical access to technology lacking in many areas of Peru. The newsletter will allow young Peruvians to express themselves and impact their own community while garnering some important marketable skills. Finally, it is our hope that we work in close conjunction with the community, and that the resource centre will ultimately be administered by locals and will be used to promote local culture and provide enriching volunteer opportunities.
Setting up the resource centre will also provide an exciting overseas experience for students. We would like this trip to be open to anyone willing to work hard, research, and fundraise. We estimate that the personal cost to students will be around $1500, but hope that some of this will be subsidized through their fundraising efforts. It is our firm beliefs that such overseas trips are as much international experiences as they are impetus to be involved in the University community. We hope to engage those wishing to go on the trip in the Trinity and broader U of T community through projects to raise money and supply for the centre. We will also be talking to U of T staff and faculty in relevant fields to gain more insight into development work in Peru

We are a students group at Trinity College, and hope to expand this coming year to become a University of Toronto club.
We believe that sustainable development is the key to improving the lifestyles of people in developing countries. Sustainable development is a grass roots effort that recognizes that access to health, education, physical and environmental security are basic human rights that are also the preconditions for long term development of a population over the long term for future generations.
Our aim is to realize this philosophy by focusing our efforts on target communities in order to research, to assess, and to improve the health, education, and environmental needs specific to each.
Some of our activities include pub nights, movie nights, a charity squash tournament and a clothing drive for Planet Aid.
This year, our major project is establishing a resource centre in Peru. We will be travelling to Peru in the summer of 2007.
