Rafi.ki is an online learning community using simple technology to build successful school partnerships, transforming pupils into global citizens.

Rafi.ki is a tool to engage students in the global dimension. It is aimed at any school wishing to work with international partner schools and add an international element to their teaching and learning.

It doesn’t matter whether a school is just beginning to think about the international dimension and finding a partner or whether they already have several well-established links, Rafi.ki can help.

Rafi.ki has four main elements which help engage students and integrate the international dimension into the curriculum:

1. Partner Finding: With hundreds of schools from more than 80 countries, Rafi.ki’s dedicated team of facilitators will find schools new partners or work with them to improve any existing links. With years of linking experience, we advise schools about obtaining funding for exchanges, applying for the International School Awards and making the most of their links;

2. Educational Projects: From comparing carbon footprints to exploring cultural identity, there are Rafi.ki projects to cover all areas of the curriculum. New projects are regularly added and they all involve interacting with other schools and experts to produce collaborative outcomes.Projects come with lesson plans, worksheets, video and audio clips and a workspace within the community to share work. We can even offer schools help in developing their own projects.

3. Communication: Rafi.ki contains all the communication tools schools need to collaborate safely with other schools. These include video and audio conferencing, email, instant messaging, and forums. They can be used at school or at home, and allow pupils and teachers to easily interact with their peers all over the world. In addition, Rafi.ki contains an easy to use web design tool to help teachers and their students create interactive web pages about yourselves, your school and your work;

4. Safety: Pupil safety is our top priority. To ensure that Rafi.ki can only be accessed by teachers and pupils, the website is password protected and all members are vetted. In addition, all content and communication is recorded and moderated. Teachers can monitor the activity of their students and deactivate any of the features for individuals or even the whole class. This gives teachers complete control over how and when their pupils use Rafi.ki.

As well as learning, students also get the opportunity to design their own personal space like in other social networks. It gives them the opportunity for self expression. The various communication tools, such as video conferencing and Instant messaging, allows them to share this self expression with their peers all around the globe.
