Peace Africa Youth Forums act as a vehicle for the concentration, empowerment and building of self-esteem and self reliance of young people through education and training, self-help initiatives, the promotion of positive indigenous values, and youth advocacy at the national and international level.
Umtapo Centre has been conducting a Peace and Anti racism Education Program in communities and in schools since 1997.Over the pat two years the program has grown in leaps and bounds.
Within the education system, teachers have been trained and implementation in the classroom is at a pilot stage. At the same time, school pupil have formed African Peace Youth Clubs which are supportive structures for promoting a culture of peace in their schools as well as linking up with other schools that have similar programs.
Peace activity in the community is coordinated by several Peace Afraid Youth Centers around that were solely established by young people themselves. The phenomenal increase in the number of out of school youth in the program resulted in discussion around the formulation of a national youth movement and it is against this background that the Peace Africa Youth Forums were formed
In order to -:
Establish a joint coordinated youth activity
Provide space for ongoing sharing and learning amongst youth
Act as a forum where the energy, passion and enthusiasm of young people can be channeled towards the promotion of a culture of peace and human rights in our country
Counter western, individualistic, Eurocentric values and its impact on the youth.
