The National Action Committee on the Status of Women (NAC) has played a significant role in advancing the agenda of women's equality in Canada.
Since its inception in 1972, NAC's organizational and democratic structures and policies have evolved in response to grassroots women's identification of how policy and legislation has affected women's substantive equality.
NAC is devoted to achieving the full civil, legal, economic, political and cultural rights for women and girls, in all their diversity living in Canada.

Utilizing feminist principles and working within an anti-discrimination and anti-racist framework, NAC is able to organize at the grassroots level to ensure inclusive representation and support the capacity for grassroots women's organizations to work at the national level.

Examples of actions that NAC has engaged in:
Advocacy work; Demonstrations; education; consultations; research and policy development; national campaigns; to hold all levels of government accountable to the equality rights of women.

NAC provides organizations, equity and equality seeking individuals with:
- provocative opportunities for engagement and networking;
-capacity building activities and multi-generational dialogues;
- consultation and input on innovative research projects;
-information and referral services;
- direct participation with campaigns linked to NAC's initiatives to promote and ensure women's equality in Canada.
NAC also works with younger women by providing seasonal youth employment and volunteer internship opportunities that provide direct access to advocacy, research and policy; capacity building and project assistancet.
