COMPUTER LITERACY PROGRAM
LWDGC abide to assist the under privileged had to design packages which will help to gain more skills so as to better transform their lives. Further more the organization show that most of its community members depend on agriculture for a living hence needed to develop alternative income generating sources so as to alleviate poverty.
One of these areas the LWDGC identified could be a good capacity build package hence poverty alleviation tool is COMPUTER SOFTWARES, VIDEO SHOOTING AND EDITING EDUCATION.
This field offers Wide Avenue for employment and is a skill, which is widely being needed in our modern world to advance communication. Our field of under privileged covers the rural population hence our program will be to create computer literacy programs in rural areas to assist them become computer literate so as to gain employment or become self employed and improve rural communication in a bide to alleviate their poverty situation..
We are still working on achieving this program because we do not have a center yet where we can train the youths, women and other underprivileged people. We are seeking for international organizations, donors who can work with us in creating these computer centers. We cannot do it all alone as we do not have the funds to do that. Any international organizations, volunteer, donors, charity groups could help with refurbished recycled computers and other equipment.
The first operating center is planned to have its head quarters in Kumbo where we shall offer computer software (Excel, Words, Page Maker, PowerPoint, Programming, basic computer education, Internet, video editing and hard Ware programs.) We shall offer 1 month, 3 months, 6 month crash programs and 9 month full software programs while our envisaged hardware classes shall run for up to 18 months. We already have a strong staff and we are looking forward to creating our center as soon as we can with your help. We also plan to expand our services to preparing our students for International examinations like C+, N+ and Microsoft Certifications in the nearest future.
We shall organize holiday classes for students on holidays, which will give them basic knowledge about computers and keeps them occupied. We shall also have handicaps and HIV/AIDS orphans students who could be trained for free. We will as well help search for jobs for most of our graduates. We will then further offer documentation services to other Organizations at cheaper rates then public rates so as to enable them organize there in formations easily. We plan to have make the schools fees affordable to everybody so as to bring computer literacy to the under privileged.
WOMEN PROGRAM
LWDGC NGO has designed programs focusing on women because we feel women in our communities are heavily marginalized hence fall under the domain of under privileged. We manage this program in hand with other NGOs such as KUDOC, Kumbo.
Our area of operation is a rural area mostly made up of communities with 80% illiterates who need guidance in managing and running their activities hence the need for service providers to guide them.
Here, we are working with about 20+ women groups from different areas of the Division organizing them, training them, assisting them write their projects and looking for funding for them. We try to make them know that women can do something if they are well organized for Collective Action Pays More Than Individual Action. We see faster community development and cooperation through women than men. We developed this scheme because
• We classified the Rural women as being under privileged
• Women are the stronger arm of development today
• Women are more hard working than men in most of our communities
• Women are more caring hence have more zeal to foster developmental activities than men
• The role of the woman in rural development is very critical for they are the bedrock of most African families.
• Women also have a tendency for more solidarity than men
• Women are more reliable than men when it comes to team work
• The thing we learnt from working with women is that they are more concern about the welfare of their community.
• We currently have a common cry by the women to be corn mills since the main stable food here is corn fufu and so they have to travel to far distances to get their maize grind while the exorbitant cost levied by these corn mill owners inconveniences them and makes them end up not being able to have a meal. These women needs corn mills that can enable them make some make some savings so as to bring more development from their savings. We are seeking for international organizations that can help these women groups with corn mills.
• Many of these communities lack schools hence leading to high rural urban migration.
• We would also love to help them get capital to start small income projects like sales of palm oil, soap and basic household needs hence raising funds to sustain their activities.
• Finally, we are looking for means to supply them with farm inputs at cheaper prices and as well help transport their products from the farm to the market and even assist them market their products.
We emphasize that they should all work as a group so as to make their cost reduced and be able to handle their community in a collective manner. Hence the empowerment of the Rural Woman whom we consider as being underprivileged is a good tool for community development.
VACATIONAL TRAINING
DRESS MAKING
We are also seeking for international organizations, donors to help in this program because these children are in need of sewing machines. This program aims at helping Orphans and Vulnerable Children (O.V.C) without any skills to get trained in various dressmaking activities in our communities to become self-employed upon completion. They will learn how to do embroidery, knitting, designing and sewing of all types of dresses for men women and children.
With this program, the young underprivileged members of the society will be able to have an independent income to support their families, reduce the unemployment rate among the youth and have a real chance to create a successful future.
