Leave Out Violence (LOVE) is a youth-focused organization dedicated to eliminating or reducing violence in the lives of youth and their community. This is achieved by initiating a movement consisting of youth spokes people who will communicate a message of non-violence using different forms of media.
Violence is defined by New York City youth as; physical/emotional abuse, domestic disputes, physical and verbal bullying, gang initiation/influence, suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, self-mutilation, physical and emotional assault. Violence is also defined as anything preventing someone from pursuing planned goals and taking positive measures to achieve those goals.

LOVE offers youth (ages 13-20) a structured program and support network for discussing and dealing with the issues surrounding violence. Emphasis is placed on discussing the results of violent behavior for victim, witness and perpetrator alike. We utilizes an innovative approach that uses creativity as a fundamental tool for building confidence, self-discovery and a voice for self-expression.
LOVE US is currently running the following programs:
1. Photojournalism: Participants are immersed in a yearlong program that develops the photography skills necessary to document the violence around them. The youth learn to document their lives in powerful and deeply personal ways. This program takes place after school, in professional photography studios and on-site shoots at various locations around Manhattan.
2. Creative Journalism: Currently at the School of the Future, this program is part of an extended school day program and is designed to help LOVE youth learn how to express their thoughts and feelings about what violence means to them and how it affects their lives.
3. Leadership Training: LOVE Youth participate in a series of professionally-run workshops and summer camp to further enhance their presentation and communication skills so they can become LOVE Youth Leaders.
4. School Outreach: Youth leaders, accompanied by LOVE staff, go into classrooms to present the LOVE concept and facilitate exciting and provocative discussions. They lead workshops about different forms of violence and suggest various non-violent ways to react in dangerous situations.
5. Community Outreach: LOVE ambassadors liaise with Police departments, youth centers, social workers, psychologists, teachers, community partners, the media, donors, corporations and many other community leaders.
