HAD exists to enable the rural people to work effectively in promoting and advancing the interests of the rural community of the Maldives to attain basic needs. We work to build a united and strong community for the advancement of the island. rnrnWe base our actions to enable the community and NGOs to effectively promote and advance the interests, well-being of island community, and improve the effectiveness of the NGOs serving the community. Especially we seek to strengthen our actions for poverty alleviation in the community by promoting equity and equality.

Hoadedhdhoo Association for Development (HAD) is youth NGO registered in the Republic of Maldives working for the rural development of the country, more specifically Huavdhu Atoll. rnEven though the main objectives of the HAD is working for the rural development of the country, HAD believes that a good democracy, proper governance and a prosperous society can be built only if constructive civic demand and participation is achieved. Thus, its working hard to increase active citizenship, strengthen the sense of community, promote responsible governance: (i) encouraging participation of citizens in decision-making by influencing and monitoring policies at both local and national level; (ii) promoting volunteerism, and improved cooperation within communities. The organisation also believes that addressing the social issues like drug and substance abuse is one of the major sectors to be involved by civil society organisation. In this regards HAD works in the area of drug prevention, and demand reduction area.rnrnThe organization has empowered rural communities and stimulated public demand for the improvement of basic living conditions. Many government institutions and donors believe that HAD has helped to improve rural community. In the year 2007 HAD been awarded Presidents award for its outstanding services to the community. Also Executive Director of HAD was awarded National Youth Award in 2008.

Since our aim to strengthen participatory development by supporting dialog between NGOs for a more transparent local community, we believe youth participation in all level is important. Participating in decision making, implementing and evaluation and monitoring is open for both Maldivian youth as well as youth from abroad. Overseas youth and youth organization could work with us sharing their knowledge and experience with as so that it could enrich our programs. They could also volunteer with us online and in a filed. We welcome youth from other countries to work with as a volunteer. We use working holiday concept for them to work with us. This will enable them to enjoy beautiful nature of the Maldives and do some thing to our society as well.
