GLOBAL PLAYGROUND SOCCER is a sustainable soccer initiative owned and developed by Kevan Anthony Cameron after coaching GITHUNGURI UNITED in the Kenyan Upcountry in October 2007.
The project involved providing soccer-specific training and coaching for a newly selected side from KIAMBU District that represented their predominantly Kikuyu community at the Kenyan Football Federation's Community Shield Cup National Tournament.
Sponsored by then businessman Mr. Johnson Mwaura and Shelter 2000, the orgnization began with Kevan Cameron collecting soccer specific gear and equipment from soccer clubs and institutions around the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley of British Columbia to take to Nairobi, Kenya.
GLOBAL PLAYGROUND SOCCER, through technical director and founder Kevan Cameron, provided team selection, soccer specific conditioning and training, team kit, administrative consulting and videoblogging performative work as his two-a-day sessions were videographed by Joel Githiri.
After working as a staff coach for Central City Breakers F.C., Kevan Cameron is researching material for a book on the "beautiful game".
Upon returning to Canada, Kevan Cameron and Global Playground Soccer provided soccer specific resources and coaching for the Surrey Champions Project, an sustainable sport leadership development initiative that involved physical literacy and mentoring newcomers to the Fraser Valley in the community. The success of this project was the Fair Trade Soccer Match and the application of sport navigation as a tool for newcomers to adapt to their cultural environment. This was later adopted by KidSport Canada as a program called, Youth Sport Navigators.
