The Global Information Village (GIV) was founded in 2005 in Dhaka to lead in the development, promotion and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning, quality of life, and equal opportunity for all LIS professionals all around the world. Today, GIV is working stronger than ever to further promote its mission in support of libraries and information service.

GIV provides leadership for the development, promotion, and improvement of library services, librarianship, and the library community. We're a resource for learning about new ideas and technology, and we actively work to influence legislation affecting libraries and librarians.

GIV is governed by an elected Council Board, its policy-making body, and an Executive Board which “acts for the Council in the administration of established policies and programs.” Policies and programs are proposed by standing committees, designated as committees of the Association or committees of Council. Headquartered in Dhaka, its operations are directed by an Executive Director and implemented by staff through a structure of programmatic offices and support units.
