1. The Center for Youth Communication (CYC): promotes youth – to – youth communication through education and training, sponsorship of youth-run media that address the specific problems of young population and support production of material from youth organizations (magazines, posters, radio broadcast, etc.) and promotions of public campaigns such as “El Embudo” (The Funnel), a book project and an itinerant photographic exhibition about the situation of young people in Paraguayan detention centers (Prisons).
Another campaign that initiated Casa de la Juventud is “Desarmemos el Presupuesto” (Let’s Disarm the Public Budget), which consists of public advocacy, lobbying, and consciousness-raising regarding reduction of military expenses. Another component of CYC is RadioJOVEN, a radio station on FM (93.5), which broadcasts from Casa de la Juventud headquarters. Its participatory programming involves diverse youth and community organizations, developing issues such as sexual education, civil rights, interculturality and alternative music. Also an analytical magazine, Tokorre (a guarani word meaning “let it flow hand by hand”) addressing youth perspectives on social and political issues, is issued periodically.
2. Non Formal Education Program: Participatory approach to education through raising awareness, group process, and critical reflection and action regarding the issues that affect one’s life. Key to meaningful youth participation in community and society. Consists of a package of Training Program for young leaders and community activists, with different modules focused on Tools for Organization and Participation and Community Management.
Contents of the Training Program:
The following issues are inserted into pedagogical modules and articulate the general training plan. With their own methodological approaches and dynamics, these modules are developed in a monographic, deep, analytical, conceptual or in practice levels, depending on the moment, the group and the participant’s sociocultural composition.
The thematic complex is identified, selected and built for each training activity, according to the mentioned variables. This means that not all issues will be developed in each event.
Module # 1: Environment’s diagnostic and reality’s analysis.
Module # 2: Identification of social needs and appeals.
Module # 3: Education related to rights, values and attitudes.
Module # 4: Communitarian promotion and Public Services.
Module # 5: Techniques and tools for social intervention.
Module # 6: Association and participation: Encouraging organization and network building.
