Each year we support dozens of activities and projects meeting the needs of young people in Slovakia, but also run educational programmes for social workers preparing to work with disadvantaged young people, organize conferences on youth work and its development, also publish manuals, methodological handbooks for youth workers and get actively involved in the initiation and realisation of system based changes in favour of developing services for young people.
Examples of realised Programmes (more at www.intenda.sk):
Lowering the threshold for youth - supporting the establishment and provision of accessible services to underprivileged youth in secluded, marginalised or urban settlements.
This is a pilot program of the Foundation, whose aim is to help Slovak youth organisations to open their services to the estimated 85% of unorganised young people, who are either unable or unwilling to participate on the currently available programs and services; and to introduce a new philosophy in the provision of services to young people.
It is based on maximal accessibility of provided services, the provision of attractive free time activities adjoined to professional counseling and support in everyday hardships faced by young people within a safe environment located in the natural environments of the clients.
Participation - the basic theses of this programme is that active citizenship and participation on public life are the basic precondition for the development of a democratic society and carry potential benefits for all those involved.
Young people carry potential which can contribute to the development of the entire society. Our aim was to support the creation of space for its activation. Thus, within the frame of the programme Participation, activities and initiatives aimed at the following aspects of youth participation have been supported:
• strengthening the identification of young people with their local community (city, village),
• creation of space for participation and involvement of young people into public affairs, and
• involvement of young people into community planning,
the main aim of the projects was to contribute to the activation of potential of young people and its meaningful utilisation for the benefit of their home communities.
