Foundation for rural education aims to enhance quality education at the rural provincial Gambian schools by supporting rural schools and students; protects the environment against global warming and desertification and also strives to conserve wildlife against poaching. Ultimately, Forewengam aims to reduce the rate of rural-urban migration through providing an improved standard of living for rural dwellers.

Since July 2004 when the organization was registered in The Gambia, it has made the interest of youths and their aspirations paramount in its agenda. Primarily, it has been playing its role of equipping schools in the rural provincial parts of the country as well as providing educational materials and school fees for indigent but brilliant rural students; in addition, monthly environmental sanitation exercises are conducted to clean the surroundings and in the process, reducing the rate of infections leading to malaria attacks and other forms of sickness, again, Forewengam also engage in tree planting exercises to forestall desertification and reduce the effect of global warming and finally, poaching of wildlife, including animals and plants is discouraged. Warthog, an endangered animal in The Gambia is protected through enlightenment campaigns embarked upon by the organization to educate poachers about the adverse effect of killing this particular animal for food.

To start with, the organization is youth-based and youth-led. It was registered to solve some of the problems faced by youths especially the disadvantaged ones living the rural areas. The poor educational standard in the provincial parts of the country means that youths educated in theses areas...

To start with, the organization is youth-based and youth-led. It was registered to solve some of the problems faced by youths especially the disadvantaged ones living the rural areas. The poor educational standard in the provincial parts of the country means that youths educated in theses areas will not be able to compete with their urban counterparts especially in the job market. In view of this, the organization establishes computer laboratories in rural secondary schools so that students will have a basic knowledge of Information Technology and as a result of this, be able to secure jobs in the employment market. Again, youths are trained on various vocational skills when they are not able to cope with western education.
Also, youths are trained on Human rights issues and also how to acquire leadership skills through speech development activities called Leadership Forum. The organization also collaborates with many institutions and organizations within and outside the country to be able to carry out its activities.
