The principal mission of FZAO is to contribute to bring long lasting socio-economic development in Bahir-Dar town, mainly in Kebele 07 & 17 where socio-economic problems are rampant through encouraging community participation featuring sustainability.

The main activities of which FZAO involved:
· Providing institutional care for 56 orphans and community-based child care program for 19 children.
· Construction of a living quarter that could accommodate 90 children.
· Provision of seed capital in the form of revolving loan fund to engage in informal small-scale business enterprises for 150 single mother and economically marginalized families.
· Undertaken the physical construction of medium clinic to serve the community in the development area in the form of cost recovery system.
· Furnished a local school with basic educational materials and office equipment.
· FZAO has constructed a shallow well equipped with hand pump in the project catchments area to provide clean and reliable water source.
· Community sensitization and awareness raising workshops with community leaders, health professionals, teachers etc on issues like STDS including HIV/AIDS, reproductive health problems and the like.
· Engaged in prevention of HIV/AIDS through economic empowerment and voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) of commercial sex workers at Bahir-Dar town.
· Engaged in care and support of AIDS orphans by empowering the caregivers.
· Engaged in alleviating youth unemployment through integrated social action.
