To quote the Constitution, art. 1, sec. 2: "EGTYF is formed to rally together all young men and women leading a life free from use of alcohol and other intoxicating drugs and who are prepared to accept and work for the ideals and objectives of the IOGT; to instil them a keener appreciation of the need for international co-operation and understanding and, through personal contact and education activities, to provide an opportunity for the mutual exchange of cultural and social ideas and, in general, to extend the sphere of activity which will most effectively implement the Platform of the IOGT and in doing this to earnestly promote an alcohol and drugfree lifestyle as preferable way of living; work for mutual understanding and equality and support the right of self-expression and liberty for peoples and individuals."
To draw an essential conclusion from the Constitution, the aims and objectives of EGTYF and it’s members are to promote among young people a lifestyle free from alcohol and other drugs, to work against racism of all kinds and to work for peace and liberty. This is done by personal contact, education, cultural exchange and democratic work. Since the work for peace and liberty is of great importance, it is worthwhile to quote the section 3 of the Constitution: "EGTYF shall recognise the Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations as one of the bases for all activities."
