We are developing a tool kit for use in schools, youth organizations, and environmental groups. Activities include examining marketing and commercialism, materialism within our culture, environmental impacts of common products, and the hidden environmental costs behind our purchasing patterns. We are also developing an interactive website that delves into these issues and offers specific actions that youth can take individually, with their families, and in their schools and communities. On this site, youth will be able to track their actions and see the measurable impact. For example, through buying recycled content paper, youth will find out how many trees they save and how much water is conserved over a year. Youth can also find out how many resources are saved collectively by everyone who has taken that action. This truly shows how one person can make a difference and how simple actions can have big impacts.
