Summer camp
Our program components include summer camps and after-school programs. Most of our new sites begin with a pilot summer program to generate momentum and early community enthusiasm. Typically the pilot summer program lasts about one to four weeks and serves roughly 15-20 campers, ages 9-15, and a dozen volunteers (these numbers are just a rough guideline). The volunteers teach the campers how to use computers and software programs, such as word processing, and Google Internet search.
After-school program
Another component of Camp Rumi is the after-school program. This is designed to teach the same skills as the summer program, but over a longer period of time (the school-year). Usually, after-school programs are held once or twice a week after elementary schools are let out. A group of 2-4 student volunteers participate to teach and mentor the students. If you have a great deal of interest from volunteers, you may consider having multiple locations for the program. The after-school program is a great way to follow-up on the momentum and progress achieved from the summer camp, in addition to providing greater support and motivation for school learning.
