The Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic is a unique
not-for-profit organization that provides a broad range of programs and services to women who have experienced many different forms of violence, including partner assault, sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse. Started in 1985, the Clinic has supported women from diverse ethno-cultural and geographic communities across the Greater Toronto Area, to achieve freedom from violence. Our commitment to the eradication and prevention of violence against women is promoted through the delivery of multi-faceted client services (counselling, legal and language interpretation) as well as through a broad range of community development and advocacy programs. These programs address the impact and root causes of violence against women, foster more effective and better coordinated services to women, as well as facilitate reforms to the legal, medical and social welfare systems that deliver essential services to women. The Barbra Schlifer Clinic promotes women’s autonomy, self-determination and equality. Our integrated services support women who are highly marginalized and who experience multiple barriers to freedom from violence.
The Clinic participates in many service and advocacy partnerships and collaborates on initiatives designed to promote women’s safety, and long term wellbeing. Over the last 22 years, the Clinic has assisted thousands of women and is well regarded within the community for its leadership and innovation in creating programs and services that support women in their struggle to achieve freedom from violence.
