Baladna is an Arab youth organization founded to give Arab youth in Israel a non-partisan, comfortable forum for youth activities and informal education, centering on a discussion of identity. A registered non-profit organization, Baladna aims to strengthen Arab youth's understanding of democracy and gender equality, to foster pluralism and tolerance, and to enable a discussion and debate about Arab Palestinian history, grievances and culture.

Baladna’s Projects and Activities:
Youth Groups: As part of a long-term strategy, Baladna has begun the first phase of its work by building a youth movement in villages and cities from the north to the south of Israel, placing special emphasis on villages lacking basic resources for youth. Baladna has established over 20 Youth Groups since 2001. Each group of approximately 25 members (ages 16-17) meets weekly to explore cultural issues and become involved in community development. During Baladna’s national seminars, youth from established Youth Group chapters network, build leadership skills and dialogue on important issues.
Youth Leadership Training: Baladna introduces models for community involvement and social action into this emerging youth movement, via an annual 6-week Youth Leaders training course presenting leadership tools and group facilitation methods to youth nationwide.
Community Gatherings: Baladna’s cultural events, study-tours and workshops, bring Baladna members together and connect them with the larger community while actively promoting Palestinian culture in Israel. Baladna bring citizens of all generations together to learn from one another during field trips to local NGOs and sites of historic and cultural interest. Hosting speakers, films, theater projects, art shows and concerts, Baladna encourages youth interest in Arab history and social issues, and brings attention to young Arab artists.
Youth Exchanges: Baladna participates in international exchange and study programs that enhance intercultural learning. Baladna hosts long-term volunteers from the European Voluntary Service, sends local youth to work camps in Europe as part of the Euro-Med program, and facilitates advocacy tours for Palestinian citizens of Israel in the United States.
Strategic Alliances: Baladna networks with local and international organizations with the aim of facilitating cooperation on youth initiatives. On the international level, Baladna is a full member of the international network, Youth Action for Peace, as well as an associate of Youth Development Cooperation. Locally, Baladna is connected with the Tel-Aviv based Jewish organization Mapach, the International Palestinian Youth League in Jerusalem, and the Youth Development Department in Hebron.
Publications:
Baladna publishes studies for awareness and advocacy purposes. Previous publications have focused on informal education, intercultural learning, civil rights, and youth management tools. We have produced the first-ever Youth Leader Manual written in Arabic designed to address the specific needs of Arab youth in Israel. Baladna also provides youth a platform for expression via our monthly youth magazine, reaching thousands of Arab youth. And our weekly newsletter keeps our members connected with one another as well as aware of local community events, Baladna activities, international opportunities, and scholarships.
