Created in December 1999 with the advent of the years 2000 and 2001respectively as the International Year for a Culture of Peace and the International Year of Volunteers, the Cameroon Association of UNESCO Volunteers (Ascvo-UNESCO) is a voluntary organisation which promotes volunteering at thegrass-roots level. Over the years Ascvo-UNESCO has often striven to be at the forefront of innovative volunteering. Among successes is its voluntary initiation of community based educational programmes in bilingual training and computer literacy and assisting in research reports
and translation for grass-roots and local governments community based organizations, self-help groups and NGO's. It is also playing an active role and interface between local communities and international organisations- and particularly in promoting Global Youth Service Day.

Besides, Ascvo-UNESCO aims at fostering peace, social and economic development and tolerance through inter-cultural dialog, protection of th world heritage, promotion of women's role in the society,promotion of some UN and International Days,education and health through volunteer effort. Above all, Ascvo-UNESCO gives a global dimention to (youth) voluntary service through participation in meetings, projects, training and exchanges.
