The Arctic Indigenous Youth Alliance seeks to connect the vision of the youth with the wisdom of the Elders, and to relate Traditional Knowledge and Values to issues of development and globalization. Our goal is to provide education and leadership development to Northern Indigenous youth. We seek to empower the youth to engage decision makers (industry and government), and equip them to make decisions for a sustainable development framework based on the traditional knowledge and customary practices of the Dene and Inuvialuit Indigenous peoples.

What does the organization do?
AIYA has participated in phase I and II of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project;
AIYA has obtained official intervener status to participate in the regulatory hearings to be held by the National Energy Board and Joint Review Panel;

AIYA has participated in phase I and II of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project;
AIYA has obtained official intervener status to participate in the regulatory hearings to be held by the National Energy Board and Joint Review Panel;
AIYA organized a youth and Elder “Sacred Gathering Summit” in Fort Simpson, NT in 2004;
AIYA held a technical workshop to gather expert evidence on the proposed MGP’s socio-cultural impacts on youth;
AIYA went on an educational community tour in the Beaufort-Delta June 2005;
AIYA held a second annual youth and Elder Summit in Fort Good Hope, August 12-15, 2005.
AIYA presented a resolution to the 35th Dene National Assembly in Deline, August 18, 2005.

•The only requirement for membership in the Arctic Indigenous Youth Alliance is a desire to advocate on behalf of the Land and the People while adhering to the principle of respect for all of creation & the inherent dignity of all peoples.
