The Youth Entrepreneurs Association of Zambia was formed out of an initiative by youths who attended a workshop on the theme Starting Your Own Business in 1989. Instrumental to the birth of YEAZ was Mr. Gerry Finnegan the then Technical Advisor at the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
The objectives of the association are:
-to bring youths entrepreneurs together in order to develop and enhance the general interests of all members in their relation with one another and with their clients and to create a strong economic force within Zambia for formulating and implementing serious industrial and commercial;
-to enhance integrity, competence and high standard of products and service amongst members;
-to promote cohesiveness between and among members and friendly relations with other businesses and trade associations;
-to fully represent all youth entrepreneurs in industry and business in Zambia;
-to negotiate and liase with other bodies concerned with the development of youth entrepreneurs and small scale enterprises within and outside Zambia;
-to do all such things as may be decent, necessary or expedient for the furtherance of the prestige and status of the objectives of the association and its membership;
-and to effect, promote or petition any act of parliament or any measures by a government body, department, wing or non-governmental organization which may affect all or part of the association and its members.
-More important, to educate our members on the adverse effects of HIV/AIDS and its repercussions on the performance of a young entrepreneur.
-All in all, to reduce youth unemployment in the country through entrepreneurship.
Membership is open to all young people between 15-35 years old, and should be running a business or be a majority shareholder in an enterprise. But since our goal is to reduce youth unemployment, membership is also open to any youth with business idea so that we help in developing the idea into an activity. Membership is open to both females and males regardless of their educational level.
