The CCHA Youth Working Group (YWG) consists of volunteers that are focused on raising awareness and educating about HIV/AIDS and related issues among young people living in Calgary and the city's surrounding area. The Youth Working Group is committed to promoting youth participation and providing youth with a voice to empower themselves and become leaders in their communities. The YWG has identified five target youth communities to work with: post-secondary youth, high school youth, street youth, aboriginal youth, and immigrant youth. The YWG is currently working towards the development of a second annual Forum on Youth and HIV/AIDS in Calgary, to take place in April 2007. The goal of the YWG is to make this forum an outlet for youth to educate their peers on the impact of HIV/AIDS in their respective communities. As of September 2006, the YWG will begin planning activities for and recruiting participants from the target youth communities who want to become involved in the forum. The forum will offer a venue for networking and skills building on issues related to HIV/AIDS in Calgary.
