Globaloria was established by the World Wide Workshop Foundation in the spring of 2006. A network of educational, programmable websites and related wikis and blogs, the Globaloria program pairs young people (13 and older) to use technology, specifically to become makers of interactive games and simulations, for their own personal and professional development and for social and economic benefit of their communities. The Globaloria program is comprised of multiple platforms, each of which has its own network, themes and active communities. The original platform, MyGLife (my global life) had its first pilot in West Virginia for the 2007-8 school year. It enabled students from 8 communities across West Virginia to master game design and development skills and create games on topics they are passionate about. The platform has since expanded to include 20 communities. In the MySLife (my science life) network, students and educators learn to design science games and simulations. MySLife launched its second pilot with the support of SEED volunteers in Trinidad, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. The main focus of the MySLife platform is concern about climate change. MyHLife (my healthy life) is the most recently launched network. In the summer of 2008, the Rethink Camp in New Orleans will use MyHLife to rethink and bring about improvements to their public schools post-Katrina. They are conceptualizing, developing and presenting games on the network as an advocacy tool to support a healthier lifestyle for students.
