Y-PEER Turkey
Y-PEER Turkey is a developing network as a good example of youth-adult partnership, with 4 Focal Points, more than 20 NGOs and 32 Peer Educators involved in the network that aims to give information, create consciousness about young people's health protection.
Since 1990's various NGOs in Turkey have been executing programs for young people. Starting from these years peer education became an integral part of some of these programs. However, these initiatives are scattered and there is a lack of coordination between them. It was also seen that there were no standards in terms of methodology, training and materials of these peer education programs. The Y-PEER network was the first of its kind in Turkey in terms of providing resources, sharing experience, and capacity building for these NGOs.
Y-PEER Turkey Focal Points and UNFPA Turkey Office serve to provide technical assistance to various NGOs and peer educators in the network in terms of information flow, motivation and training.Y-PEER Turkey aims to expand this network in the future and promote the Y-PEER standards in peer education.
UNFPA is collaborating with Turkish Ministry of Health, Human Resources Development Foundation, International Children Center, Turkish Medical Students` International Committee (TurkMSIC) and AIESEC under this project.
