Trees In Trust woodland is managed by a number of charitable Land Trusts. These Land Trusts are run by committed, local, environmentally foward-thinking individuals. All Land Trusts that manage Trees In Trust woodland are not-for-profit charities that exist primarily to secure and protect environmentally important forested areas and other endangered land. Currently, all Trees In Trust land is owned and managed by the Island Nature Trust.
By securing of a plot of woodland, the future of that plot is assured. The plot is held in perpetuity the name of the donor, or in memorial of a departed friend or relative. For one acre purchases, a business will have its name listed on the Trees In Trust website and on the respective Land Trust website, complete with a link to the businesses own website.
Once a piece of woodland has been secured, the land is protected by the strongest possible laws available, with the aim of protecting that woodland forever. The name of the individual or business to whom that woodland is dedicated becomes part of the deeds of that woodland forever.

Trees In Trust was set up so that you can quickly and easily secure a piece of woodland as a gift, as a memorial or to balance your CO2 production. You don't own the woodland, rather it is held in your name forever by a not-for-profit charitable land trust. Your name is attached to the deeds for the property and the woodland is protected in perpetuity. Trees In Trust works closely with these land trusts and is used by them to raise funds to secure and preserve woodland for the benefit of wildlife, for the environment and for future generations.
The three things that make Trees In Trust unique are the speed and convenience of purchasing your woodland on-line, the availability of woodland in many locations (...coming soon) and the way in which your individual piece of woodland is mapped using a GIS (Geographic Information System). By bringing in donations from many different sources - gift purchases, memorials, businesses - we are able to make a real difference to the amount of woodland that is protected forever.
Currently, all Trees In Trust land is owned and managed by the Island Nature Trust in Prince Edward Island, Canada. During the course of 2007, land trusts in other provinces will begin using Trees In Trust, so eventually we will be able to offer woodland in a number of locations in each Province.
Our mission is "to enable Land Trusts to preserve and restore as much native forest as possible by allowing large numbers of people the opportunity to secure small pieces of woodland." We aim to have protected 3,000 acres of threatened woodland by our tenth year of operation - and hope to far exceed this target.
The Land Trusts receive 76% of the funds raised by Trees In Trust*. The remainder of the funds are used to pay credit card transaction fees, advertising expenses, web hosting charges and administrative costs. We cut costs by avoiding printed material and handling all of our business on the web. It is only by not mailing out glossy brochures and certificates that we can maintain this low overhead. We really appreciate your support.

Meeting your Kyoto target
The average Canadian produces 7 tonnes of CO2 per year from driving a car, heating, lighting and running appliances. An acre of mature trees captures 2.6 tonnes of CO2 per acre per year. So a sixth of an acre of trees will capture 6% of your personal CO2 output. The Kyoto target for Canada is to reduce our CO2 output to 6% of 1990 levels by 2012. Many dismiss the Kyoto target as impractical, impossible, ineffective - but if we do nothing then we are headed for disaster. Only by many of us acting individually can we make a real difference.
