Our LGBT Program provides psycho-social support (one-to-one counseling support groups), HIV/AIDS information, basic IT training, and safe socials paces (through social events and sporting and cultural activities) to LGBT youth
WHY DO WE IT?
LGBT youth in this geographical area are a marginalized group, often living within marginalized communities in which poverty, unemployment, HIV and AIDS,crime, substance abuse and other social problems are epidemic. Youth in general(whether in school/students/unemployed) have few positive options, and LGBT youth have no safe space aside from TREASURE-LGBT UGANDA.
Therefore LGBT youth require a place to go to where they can access support, information, safe social space, and other developmental services without being forced to disclose their sexual orientation until they are ready to do so. TREASURE-LGBT provides this space as well as confidential support with the challenges and problems facing LGBT youth, practical skills training, information and the opportunity to build supportive social networks in the LGBT youth community and beyond.
WHO WE DO HELP?
The primary target group of the LGBT program is on LGBT youth from school and surrounding communities. Given the absence of any other institution providing support to LGBT people, we do (on request) provide support to older LGBT people who have experienced discrimination or similar challenges to those mentioned in our response to.
A secondary target group consists of educational institutions (in particular high schools and their principals, educators and learners): we provide information and inputs around LGBT, sexual orientation and gender issues to these groups with the intention of supporting them to adopt a more accepting and supportive approach to LGBT youth.
In addition TREASURE-LGBT UGANDA other programs target youth in general. However, most general youth development activities involve LGBT youth and thus contribute to our larger aim of broadening the safe space for LGBT people and supporting them to integrate into the larger community without having to compromise the integrity of their own identities.

Treasure Uganda gay and lesbian youth association (TREASURE-LGBT UGANDA) was conceived as a realization that within Africa and particularly Uganda there are many organizations targeting various interventions rather than LGBT concern. There is a disconnect from the national level strengthening programs and district/lower level concern.
TREASURE-LGBT UGANDA has been established to support the LGBT both public and individual to strengthen their equality, to ensure constant availability and full access to resources. The LGBT youth leaving rural areas and small towns, they are faced with a difficulty of finding relevant information about their sexuality, at the same time they are facing discrimination in their communities, families, schools and work places.
Imagine being in a town/community where you can not get together with your friends of the same sexuality, It makes life difficult for the homosexual community, then the number of LGBT youth dropping out of schools, homeless and infected with HIV/AIDS increases. TREASURE-LGBT UGANDA through its services helps a number of school drop out, and homeless.
