--Letter from the President:
Greetings,
EAYI is more than just another organization for Ethiopians abroad. It was established under one guided principal, to enhance the cooperation of Ethiopians in the diaspora beyond the political, ethnic and social constraints we all have. Recognizing that Ethiopia is a diverse country and that Ethiopians have a variety of views and issues on almost all topics, we here at EAYI are trying to build and promote the culture of tolerance, commitment, loyalty and cooperation because we believe that it takes a village to raise a child but it takes a people to raise a country!
Furthermore, EAYI is not just an Ethiopian organization. We want to include our American friends who are interested in helping Ethiopia as well as any other Ethiopian/Ethiopian American. We believe in cooperation and partnerships in order to complete our mission and we are determined to cooperate with individuals, organizations, corporations and governments in order to fulfill a nonpartisan, youth-driven agenda to help Ethiopia prosper.
You're probably wondering, how can I help? Here are some ideas for you to consider:
-Becoming a member and regularly attending meetings to contribute your time, energy and ideas
-Volunteering for the organization at events and functions
-Raising funds for the organization through your school, neighborhood community/council, organization, etc.
-Helping create an atmosphere of awareness about Ethiopia's issues and how one can empower him/herself to help: you can give a man a fish, but it is better to teach the man to fish for himself. We believe in self-empowerment and self-reliance as a means for long-term development
You are more than encouraged to join us in our mission towards tolerance, unity, respect, diversity and cooperation. If you are truly interested in helping Ethiopia and if you are serious about youth being that avenue to help Ethiopia then we encourage you to come on board! EAYI needs and wants bright and talented youth to become the new generation to lead Ethiopia in the Third Millennium.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information as your ideas, comments and questions are taken into serious consideration. With all our best wishes and sincere gratitude!
Yours truly,
Samuel M. Gebru
Chairman and Founder
