The Regional Reconciliation and Transitional Justice Programme focuses on Research.
Governance and National Recovery
This is a programme that seeks to create awareness of and the need for good governance – a concept to be savoured and nurtured by all stakeholders in the country. The programme started modestly with a conference on ‘Vision and Values for the Zimbabwe’, held in Vumba in August 2003. Since then the programme gathered momentum and CPIA has crisis crossed the country, consulting, researching and arranging meetings and conferences with various stakeholders on a whole range of issues to do with constitutionalism, economic management and governance, with a view to coming up with a lasting solution to the political tension, sharp economic decline and general social meltdown. A recent conference held in Mutare adopted what has been termed the Mutare Communiqué: a document that simply and clearly spells out what has to be done to guarantee political stability, sustainable economic development and social cohesion. Good governance in short.
National Evaluation Documentation and Training
Operations, National Reconciliation and Social Cohesion
Operations
CPIA is committed to ensuring that the implementations of approved programmes are smooth and effective. Accordingly, staff works as a team and is engaged in on-going relevant training. The aim is to achieve effectiveness and impact.
From its inception, CPIA identified national reconciliation as cardinal in the pursuit and attainment of peace. Recognizing that the policy of national reconciliation communicated at independence appears not to have achieved its goals; CPIA took up this challenge and made reconciliation one of its main programmes. CPIA believes that the church in particular and other Faiths organisation have a very important role to play and cooperation and collaboration are critical.
Social cohesion is a goal CPIA envisions and has been endeavouring to contribute to its attainment. In 2005 (Zimbabwe’s Silver Anniversary of Independence) CPIA published the book, Zimbabwe: The next 25 Years. In that book, CPIA declared its aim to foster “political stability, social cohesion and sustained economic development”.
The Social Cohesion programme would be one CPIA has been rolling up its sleeves to undertake as a milestone for Zimbabwe’s Golden Anniversary. As a concept, Social Cohesion is a societal goal consisting of two dimensions namely:
? The reduction of social exclusion, inequalities and disparities.
? The strengthening of social relations, interactions and ties
The objectives of this programme include integrating the national reconciliation objective/activities with those of Social Cohesion and focus on the overall goal of social cohesion, which is ‘a society where all have a place’.
