Dedicated to the related issues of substance abuse, violence prevention and criminal justice improvement, the Boston Coalition was formed in 1991 in response to the escalating violence, much of it substance abuse related, that was overtaking Boston's neighborhoods. Working to establish a broad-based organization that included representation from area universities and hospitals, government and criminal justice, business, religious, and community leadership, the Boston Coalition has proven the benefits of bringing diverse parties to the same table on a consistent basis.

What does the organization do?
The Boston Coalition unites corporate, governmental, community, religious, educational and philanthropic segments of the city to reduce violence, fight substance abuse and assist the criminal justice system
