SPW runs structured 4-9 month Health Education and Environment Programs in India, Nepal, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Uganda. Half of our volunteers are recruited from the countries we work in; half are self-funded volunteers recruited from North America, Europe and Australasia. All volunteers receive one month’s intensive training before working together in mixed nationality teams in rural communities, raising awareness and changing attitudes to vital health and environmental issues such as HIV/AIDS, sanitation and nutrition. Full in-country support is offered. The skills and unique experience SPW volunteers gain are valuable regardless of nationality: gain life skills such as team building, critical thinking, resourcefulness and self-confidence while helping other young people.

Volunteer on our 4-9 month health and environmental education programs in rural Africa and Asia. This time next year you could be in the Himalayas setting up sustainable community forestry projects, or in Tanzania working with an HIV/AIDS awareness club.
SPW provides 4 weeks training in non-formal education methods, rural appraisal techniques and appropriate rural technologies. You will then be placed in a rural community in a small mixed-nationality team, raising awareness and changing attitudes to vital health and environmental issues such as HIV/AIDS, sanitation and nutrition.
