The Students Commission is a charitable organization dedicated to creating and promoting opportunities for young people to learn and grow in a positive and safe environment. Young people from all backgrounds, working in partnership with supportive adults hone their skills by getting involved with any of the multiple projects and programs that we as an organization and all of our partners are working on. We believe that all young people have endless potential and encourage them to use it to the best of their abilities, by engaging them on issues that concern them, no matter where they are coming from. It is the belief of this organization that engaging young people in an effective and meaningful way creates resiliency, in turn building community and citizenship.
For over ten years, The Students Commission has created a proactive forum for young people to learn how to share their ideas and opinions with people who matter in their schools and communities. Their messages have reached government, business, education, community and labour leaders from all across Canada, helping themselves and other young people become active, contributing members of society. The impacts these messages are making in turn create the foundation for many new projects and concrete results.
In addition to leadership development and organizational skill training, youth acquire the values of collective independence by being responsible for fundraising to attend national conferences and creating their own jobs and projects. As youth progress through levels of development, they learn to write budgets, proposals, pay bills, administer the organization and make presentations on its behalf. TG and The Students Commission specifically recruit among those not selected traditionally for national conferences and co-op programs.
The Students Commission (SC) is a diverse, global-minded organization that is run by youth for youth across Canada. We strive to create opportunities for engagement and growth through innovative and educational processes and products.
We accomplish our mission through
Implementing relevant:
* interactive workshops
* hands-on training
* youth-driven conferences
Utilizing:
* new communication technology
* long-distance learning
and Creating:
* learning resources such as CD-ROMs, web sites, videos, and print guides
* networks and partnerships in the youth, government, business, and educational communities.
