In order to achieve its vision, SEACSUCS engages different parties to conflict including communities, civil society groups and children to:
1. Advocate for the universal ratification of the Optional Protocol to the CRC on the involvement of children in armed conflict;
2. Ensure awareness and respect of international child protection standards by conducting human rights and peace education among non-state armed groups and civil society organizations;
3. Develop capacities of partner organizations in advocating for the implementation of programs for child soldiers;
4. Monitor the compliance of governments and non-state armed groups to the Optional Protocol and other human rights instruments prohibiting the involvement of children in armed conflict.
What have we accomplished so far?
•Prepared reports on the issue of child soldiers
•Produced a primer on child soldiers entitled, “Children are Zones of Peace” and was published in Bahasa and Thai
•Shared information and updates on children’s involvement in armed conflict through action appeals, statements and press releases
•Maintain close working relationships with appropriate government bodies in Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines
•Conducted education and training on child rights together with various non-state armed groups in the region
•Organized workshops involving civil society groups and young people.
