The Sierra Youth Coalition is a Canadian organization run by youth for youth, serving as the youth arm of the Sierra Club of Canada. We are a group of inspired and committed youth who desire to see the working realities of sustainability integrated into the daily operations of life around us. We target solutions, we identify problems and we are building a new reality.
SYC unites youth who care about the world around them. Working independently and through our networks, we work with youth to challenge the injustices that surround us, to lobby decision-makers and encourage youth to become decision makers ourselves, and most importantly, inspire ourselves and our fellow Canadians to act. Alongside promoting sustainable lifestyle choices, we work to transform high schools, universities, and governments into models of sustainability.
Meaningful change occurs through the grassroots power of people. Join SYC to strategize, organize, mobilize and become part of a youth community - locally, regionally and nationally!

Sustainable Campuses is a national initiative that inspires, informs, trains, and supports Canadian students working toward social equity, ecological integrity and economic prosperity on their campuses.
These changes are achieved through changing institutional operations, improving curricula and mobilising campus community members’ support.
Since 1998, the Sustainable Campuses project has worked with thousands of students from across Canada in order to:
* Change environmental and social practices on Canadian campusesrn
* Empower youth to influence decision makers
The Sierra Youth Coalition’s Community Youth Action Project (CYAP) aims to inform, activate and empower Canadian youth (ages 14-19) to undertake projects leading to ecological and social well being in their own communities. We seek to build awareness, community and leadership skills for environmental and social justice year-round through:
* summer & winter gatheringsrn
* informing youth of current News & Eventsrn
* supporting youth groups and clubsrn
* creating and distributing resource materials and information on current issuesrn
* presenting workshops in high school classrooms and at youth events.
The Sustainable High Schools Project (SHS) is a youth driven adaptation of SYC's Sustainable Campuses project. The SHS BC Pilot Project has been run in collaboration with the Sierra Club BC Chapter since September 2006, and we are pleased to announce SYC has now hired a Coordinator to run SHS in Ottawa!rnrnSHS aims to bring together secondary students, teachers, and administrators who want to make their high school communities models of sustainability. It empowers students to lead initiatives that will generate greater social, ecological and economic sustainability through infrastructure upgrades, additions to curricula and enhancing community members' ability to communicate and work together to achieve a common vision.
The Campus Climate Challenge is a project of more than 40 leading youth organizations throughout the U.S. and Canada. The Challenge leverages the power of young people to organize on college campuses and high schools across Canada and the U.S. to win 100% Clean Energy policies at their schools. The Challenge is growing a generation-wide movement to stop global warming, by reducing the pollution from our high schools and colleges down to zero, and leading our society to a clean energy future.
