Save the Children Federation began its work in Lebanon in 1953. Program activities have included both humanitarian and development interventions. Today the organization's primary focus is on youth development, microfinance and local capacity building. Through its Community Youth Development program, Save the Children/ Lebanon Field Office (SC/LFO) is building the capacity of youth to take a proactive role in identifying community problems and proposing effective local solutions. The Economic Opportunities for Youth program provides youth with enterprise and busniess skills to facilitate their entry in the job market. Save the Children is also leading a consortium of NGOs advocating for national youth policies in Lebanon in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and UNESCO. In the microfinance sector, SC/LFO supports Al Majmoua, a spin-off microfinance institution providing financial services to small and disadvantaged entrepreneurs in Lebanon. Across all programs, SC/LFO's strategy is to collaborate and strengthen the capacity of local NGOs and government agencies in order to deliver services and programs.
