Reuters Foundation supports a global range of educational and humanitarian causes. Reuters, the world news, information and technology organisation, established the Foundation in 1982 as a charitable trust to implement its corporate support policy.
The first cause was international journalism. The Foundation began offering grants for journalists from the developing world to study at universities in Europe and the United States.
Today, the Foundation's aims have expanded to cover a broad spread of corporate support - reflecting the diverse interests of Reuters and the concerns of its employees around the world.
Reuters Foundation is independent of Reuters business interests, but its guidelines are based on its founder's principles of accuracy, impartiality, reliability and technical innovation. The Foundation aims to safeguard this tradition and pass it on to others.
