Currently, POWER is focusing on the massive loss of biodiversity that is affecting many ecosystems around the world. 2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity. POWER is looking to send a team to the Convention on Biological Diversity being held in Japan during October 2010. POWER also has many other projects, such as our Youthlink conferences. We promote the adopt-a-pond network from the Toronto zoo, and have our reforestation project called the future-forest fund.

The team sent to Japan will consist of five youth from Halton, Ontario, who were previously sent to the Second International Youth Symposium on Biodiversity held in Ottawa, Ontario. Here, they met with delegates from 9 different countries to create a document summarizing a global youth view on what should be done to prevent the loss of biodiversity. They will be travelling to Japan during October 2010 to meet with United Nations officials to discuss this document and ensure youth around the world are given a voice in this important issue. Youth will have many ‘behind-the-scenes’ experiences, particularly with organizations that are partnered with us. We hope to provide a learning experience to youth, and our more experienced individuals, will certainly be taking their knowledge to the international stage.
