Mission
PLAN’s mission is to help families secure the future for their relative with a disability and to provide you with peace of mind. This means ending isolation and loneliness, creating financial security, enabling everyone to make a contribution, ensuring choice, and creating genuine homes.
Vision
PLAN’s vision is simple: we want everyone to have access to a good life. Not surprisingly, a good life for people with disabilities is not very different from a good life for anyone else: friends and family, a place of one’s own, financial security, choice, and the ability to make a contribution to society.
At PLAN we envision a future where people with disabilities:
* Are supported by caring family and friends
* Are encouraged to participate in and contribute to their community
* Have their wishes and choices respected
* Have financial security
* Live in a place of their own choice
* Are protected from abuse and exploitation
Values
In all of our work, PLAN is guided and inspired by four core principles:
1. Caring relationships are the key to safety, security and a good life. Cultivating loving networks for individuals with disabilities is the heart of PLAN's work.
2. Contribution equals citizenship. People with disabilities have important contributions to make to our communities, and PLAN works to ensure the people it serves are recognized for their contributions.
3. Self-sufficiency makes us more effective. Independence from government funding enables PLAN to advocate on behalf of individuals and families without fear of consequences.
4. Commitment to family direction. PLAN is structured to ensure it will always be directed by and accountable to families.

What is PLAN?
PLAN is a not-for-profit charity created by and for families who have a relative with a disability. Our goal is twofold: to ensure a safe and secure future for your relative with a disability and, in the process, to provide you and your loved ones with peace of mind. In pursuit of this goal we're inspired by a simple but powerful vision: the vision of a good life for all people with disabilities and their families.
Why PLAN?
For those of us who have a relative with a disability, one of the most pressing questions we face is: "What will happen to our family member when I die?"
PLAN was created to help families answer this question. We do this by helping you create a plan for the future that provides for the safety, security and well-being of your loved one. A plan that ensures that they will not only have access to the programs and services they need, but that they will be surrounded by a loving and caring network of friends.
We've learned a lot since PLAN was founded in 1989. One of the things we've learned is that when families start making plans for the future, they also start changing the present. So when you join PLAN you're not only safeguarding your relative's future but helping them create a good life today.
How can PLAN help you?
PLAN's work enhances the quality of life and security of individuals with a disability by building a safety net of programs that can withstand the death of their parents as well as changes in government-funded support services.
Services Available Through PLAN:
* We help you develop a personal future plan for your loved one with a disability.
* We help you establish a loving and caring personal network for your relative.
* We provide lay advice and referral on alternatives to the current government administered social services.
* We monitor the quality of programs and services your relative receives for the rest of his or her life.
* We provide recommendations and advice on home ownership and alternatives to legal guardianship.
* We advocate on behalf of people with disabilities with government and non-government agencies.
* We encourage law and policy reform to remove barriers that deter families from assisting their relatives with disabilities and to create tools and mechanisms to help families secure a good life for their relatives with disabilities, both now and in the future.
* We create greater community awareness of the contributions that are made by people with disabilities.

PLAN is focused on creating caring committed relationships within and across the organization. We have created one of the oldest and largest programs in the world to address the loneliness and isolation of people with disabilities. But our founders recognized that PLAN will only be as strong as the relationships it has with all its stakeholders.
PLAN thrives on the quality of its own personal network as surely as our relatives do. Our organizational health depends on vibrant threads of connection between people at the centre, families, staff, facilitators, network members, funders, volunteers, associates and supporters.
We invite you to get involved with PLAN and become a member of our personal network. There are many ways you can become involved. In this section we show you how.
