Progress Association of South Africa (PASA) is a youth Network organization which was formed in 2008 and subsequently registered as a Not for Profit Organization (NPO) in August 2009 after realizing that there is lack of hope for the future amongst young South Africans which is translated in to low self-esteem, a high school drop-out rate and high levels of risky and anti-social behavior, including, gender inequalities, crime, drug and alcohol abuse, early child bearing, and unsafe sexual practices leading to high STI and HIV infection rates.
PASA addresses prevention of HIV&AIDS, STIs (and other infectious diseases) and other challenges faced with youth to overcome the widespread attitude of hopelessness amongst young people and to give young people an incentive to stay healthy by creating a platform for young people to discuss, share and interact with one another across the province and the country.
Support and promote project established and led by young people - Young people can lead if given an opportunity
Peer training and monitoring - PASA does not come up with new project but recruit young people who are already involved in their communities; these young people are then trained to do what they do better. PASA believes that young people know better what would work for their communities.
