The New York City Task Force for the has organized New York city- and United Nations-based promotion and activities in honour of the Gandhi-King Season for Nonviolence - January 30 - April 4 - marked by the anniversaries of the deaths - both by assassination - of Mohandas K. "Mahatma" Gandhi, in 1948, and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in 1968 - and honouring and appreciating the life, work and teachings of these two great teachers and practitioners of nonviolence as a way of life and as a vehicle for transformative social change.

The New York City Task Force has organized major opening and closing events at or near the United Nations for the past five years; the Task Force paticipants include Religious, Interfaith and Peace oriented Non-Governmental organziations at the United Nations, students, teachers and administrators at schools - including the New York City Board of Education - and college campuses -based and international youth groups and networks.
The Task Force maintains an electronic mailiing list for its membership, and for the distribution of daily messages throughout the Season for Nonviolence, and has a web site for the United Nations-based promotion and activities in honour of the Gandhi-King Season for Nonviolence at http://habitat.igc.org/gksnv
