When it comes to youth, change starts within schools.
At least that’s what we believe - which is why we focus our attention on creating educational programs that encourage youth to become committed citizens and creative individuals. Through our programs we’re bringing the community into the classroom and the classroom into the community – fostering relationships and networks that guide youth to explore their full potential.

Mavericks offers a number of in and out of school programs. For instance, Peace Jam is a program offered for youth 10-14. Through PeaceJam, our youngest community members are thinking global and acting local. The program is focused around weekly lunchtime/after-school meetings where youth learn about the lives and work of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, and then use this inspiration to launch a local community project as part of PeaceJam International’s Global Call to Action. Those students who exhibit strong dedication to the program will even have the chance to attend a PeaceJam Conference where they will get to spend a weekend with one of 12 Nobel Prize Winners.
Co-op Connections is offered to youth 15-18. Mavericks connects local school boards with their networks of entrepreneurs and visionaries to help them expand their community-based education programs. Co-op allows high school students to get school credits for working at a local business or not-for-profit organization. The new opportunities they create all provide an uber creative, supportive, and empowering environment for big thinking high school students. In addition to helping create placements Mavericks also provide ongoing support with student recruitment, interviewing, training, and facilitation.
Kingpins Connector is offered to young people aged 19-25. Working with University-based experiential learning classes, Mavericks is building and training entrepreneurial teams of emerging student leaders by partnering up young individuals with unique skills and interests. Once a team is established, they develop an innovative idea for a social purpose project and work together to implement it while participating in training workshops about social entrepreneurship. This program is perfect for young adults who have some previous project management experience and now want to take their leadership to the next level. Participants emerge with a strong understanding of how to develop and grow a community project that’s capable of positively transforming entire social systems.
