LearningChannel.org is a OneWorld themed portal, which brings together organisations and audiences involved in the challenges around education today.
Education is crucial to sustainable development. No country has been able to fight poverty, raise living standards or lower mortality rates without it. Yet it does not receive the importance, or the resources, it deserves - despite repeated pledges made by the international community.
The mission of LearningChannel.org is to promote quality education for all. It does this by using the Internet to highlight the best initiatives and programmes in education worldwide. In doing so, it promotes education as the most cost-effective investment Governments ever make.
LearningChannel.org is a portal that seeks to facilitate experience sharing between organisations and individuals working in education. It exploits the potential of the Internet to bridge the knowledge divide, using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as a medium to provoke debate on learning.
OneWorld works to harness the democratic potential of the Internet for human rights and sustainable development. It has developed a unique model: creating virtual communities on the Internet that bring together the best information from leading actors on sustainable development in one place at www.oneworld.net.
The portal is a forum where the best initiatives and the foremost challenges in education faced by grassroots NGOs and other organisations are featured. It is a place where global audiences and grassroots organisations meet, share their experiences and discuss their problems. It is a space where education providers, practitioners, policy makers and fenders debate issues of interest to them. It includes everything from grass-roots projects on girl's education and information on a distance-learning center, to a human rights awareness programme and suggestions on dealing with the problems of racism and indiscipline in schools.
Learningchannel.org is a global portal for a global audience where content from organisations both in the North and the South will be accessible to all. Significantly, the channel is edited from New Delhi, India, since we believe that the South has the greatest potential to be transformed by education. We hope to push forward the time when education will reach those who have been deprived of its benefits until now.
