Emerging Leaders Program (ELP):
Going by the prevalent human development and physical infrastructural decay in Nigeria and the African continent, one can conclude that the last decade was largely a failure in economic development and political governance. The pressing challenge for African countries, particularly Nigeria, the most populous African country, is to shape and successfully face the challenges of the future. We can shape and win the future if we manage well today. African youth is the bridge between the distressed today and the hopeful tomorrow.
Nigeria and other African countries face the challenge of nurturing new leaders with transformative visions, values and competencies. The desired leadership in Africa will be knowledge-based, technology-oriented, innovative and creative as well as people and process-empowering. This leadership must have the skills and networks to compete and win in a new global order constrained by market forces and strategic geopolitical considerations.
The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is an incubator of transformative leadership for Nigeria and the African continent for the coming decades. It redeems the African future by equipping its new generation leaders with critical skills and values to achieve the desired transformation of the continent.
The focus of the ELP will include:
The Ken Nnamani Fellows Program
Under the Emerging Leaders Program, the KNC will mentor young leaders through fellowships that will leverage existing partnerships with national and international research and development centers to expose them to opportunities for training and mentoring for emerging leaders in various fields. These fellows, at different stages of their professional and educational development, will have opportunities of meeting national and international leaders, as well as outstanding peer groups, and engaging in exchange programs that will provide them contemporary and comparative perspectives on leadership and transformation. The fellowship will be executed in collaboration with Nigerian and foreign leadership centres and national and international organizations.
Capacity-Building for Political Participation, Citizenship, Good Governance, and Entrepreneurship.
This programme focuses on enhancing the quality of future leadership by enhancing the technical and ethical qualities of emerging leaders. It also promotes the intense involvement of young people in deliberating, organizing and devising processes, structures and institutions that promote rule of law, electoral justice, social equity, fair and free electoral processes, and transparent and accountable governance. Its objective is to establish a critical mass of champions of good governance and rule of law under the banner of Youth Network for Good Governance. Capacity-building interventions under this programme will include:
Rule of Law and Constitutionalism
Democracy and Electoral Justice
