Kaski Association of the Blind (KAB) is a non-profit, non-religious, non-political and non-governmental organization founded by a group of proactive, committed, enthusiastic and passionate blind people in Kaski district of Nepal 16 years ago. Innitially, it was known as the first regional branch of Nepal Association of the Blind (NAB). It worked for more than 11 years as the branch of NAB. Later it has been registered as an autonomous organization to increase the access to the local resources and work independently. In the current social context, it has also been working for the self reliance and dignified life of all marginalized and pwds through awareness campaign, advocacy and lobbing on the rights of pwds, empowerment and rehabilitation services.
It has been adopting the Rights Based Approach to design and implement its programs and all programs are aimed at effective implementation of the UNCRPD to create the inclusive society or to strengthen social integration and dignified life of all pwds. It has four themes with specific objectives and activities i.e. Awareness and advocacy Vocational Training and income generation, Socio Economic Rehabilitation, Lobbing for Human Rights of pwds, And Networking.
KAB consists of an executive board of 9 members elected by a general assembly held every three years. Out of nine members three are women in vital post; Co-secretary, treasurer and a member. The Board meets monthly to discuss and organize worthy projects to empower person with disabilities although it is a self-help organization of the blind. All nine members on the board are active and experienced in disability rights and movement in their own fields, who are themselves living with a disability and who nevertheless, willingly and enthusiastically devote energy and time to be the spokespeople for pwds.
Today, with the help and commitment of the board members and the community at large, KAB is busy conducting many worthy projects throughout the Kaski district for people with disabilities.
It has been established as a leading disabled people organization in Kaski district of Nepal.
