KAMINKAP seeks to empower the youth sector through the following:

1. Enhance the capacities of youth organizations in promoting peace, human rights, participatory governance and community empowerment in their respective structures;

2. Build the capabilities and skills of the youth for increased participation in socio-economic development, in leadership and in decision-making processes in their communities and organizations;

3. Advocate for local, national and international agencies to be aware of the particular needs of the multi-cultural youth sector of Mindanao and of their communities and for local, national and international agencies to use their resources to address these needs;

4. Advocate for local, national and international agencies to use their resources in enabling and empowering the youth sector as catalysts of change and towards the propagation and institution of a culture of peace in the Philippines.

Goals:
KAMINKAP is committed to helping the youth sector of Mindanao by:

1. Empowering the youth as working partners actively participating in the affairs of society and upholding the principle of volunteerism in the fields of peace, human rights, participative governance and development, and community empowerment in Mindanao, as well as in addressing current issues and concerns thereto;

2. Utilizing the youth and youth organizations as mediums towards community empowerment; complementing and supporting the peace-based activities and programs of the government and of civil society in general;

3. Enabling the youth to develop skills in promoting peace through cultural solidarity, interfaith cooperation and dialogue, and nonviolent action and in their contribution to the socio-economic well-being of their families and communities through practical livelihood skills, youth entrepreneurship, non-formal education, and micro-enterprise development;

4. Insuring organizational efficiency, innovativeness and dynamism of youth groups for self-reliance and sustainability; and

5. Advocating for sustainable, culturally sensitive and just peace as a way of life and peacebuilding, human rights and participative governance as integral parts for attaining social transformation.

Since its inception in 2004, KAMINKAP has implemented and co-implemented capability building activities, advocacy events, and community organizing activities in the fields of peacebuilding, culture of peace, and unarmed civilian peacekeeping, whether on its own, in partnership with other agencies and NGOs, or as a member institution of a network. Through these activities, it strives to involve young individuals in the actual implementation of these activities, as well as encourages them to replicate or initiate practical applications of their learnings to other organizations and to their communities.

KAMINKAP strives to disprove the common misconception that youth organizations are merely transitory in nature and are bound to disappear after a few years. It is determined to become a sustainably operating organization so that it may continue its grassroots and community programs and reach as much of the youth sector of Mindanao as possible, thereby standing hand-in-hand with other stakeholders in society towards the attainment of a better Mindanao.

KAMINKAP is convinced that the skills in empowering the tri-people communities of Mindanao, should not only be the exclusive expertise of older people, or people with at least a tertiary educational attainment, or should only be facilitated by older people with graduate and post graduate degrees. These skills should be transferred, replicated and shared to the youth sector, so that as much of the sector can prevent their fellows from becoming victims of present societal ills, and so that the youth sector could be more prepared and competent in assuming the cudgels of facing the challenges encountered by society as the stewards of the future. KAMINKAP is determined to echo and re-echo these through its programs to the youth sector of Mindanao at their initiative and create the necessary critical mass to really empower themselves, so that they may be respected and sincerely listened to by their elders, and so that they may also be prepared for their future.
