Iterelen is a Tswana word meaning people doing this for themselves. Our overall vision is "to be a dynamic role player in the facilitation of leadership, organisational effectiveness by promoting social innovation and restored human growth in an equal society"

The organisation provides Community and Youth Development programmes and acts as a Service-Provider for the Development Sector, and has clients with UN, Government and Non-Governmental agencies in Southern & Eastern Africa. Throughout its work, Itereleng: ICA utilizes a methodology known as Technology of Participation (ToP), which has been developed through practical application over a 40-year period by ICA International and national ICAs in more than 30 countries worldwide.

Youth as Facilitative Leaders (YFL) Programme is the organisation’s major programme that has been working with young people from different areas of Johannesburg since 2002. The overall goal of the programme is “To develop young people as facilitative leaders to mobilize and influence positive social change in their schools and communities.” Young people are taken through a process of training in peer education, facilitation, youth development and life-skills.
