International Youth Parliament (IYP) is a global network of young leaders and activists in over 150 countries that advocates for the rights of young people and their communities.
An initiative of Oxfam Community Aid Abroad, IYP was launched at a world-first event (IYP2000), attended by 250 international youth delegates in Sydney, October 2000. These delegates are now actively engaged in social change projects in their home countries as "IYP Action Partners". Some 400 Action Plans are currently live, tackling such issues as human rights and discrimination, youth employment and sustainable development at grass roots level.
IYP supports these Action Plans and the IYP global youth network via:
The Action Plan Support Scheme (APSS)
The APSS has been developed to support the inspirational work of the IYP Action Partners, providing start up grants and innovation awards to give projects the kick-start they need to attract further support in their local communities and abroad.
The IYP Skills Centre
Forming a vital part of the IYP website, the IYP Skills Centre offers Action Partners the means to share knowledge and experience as well as access a comprehensive library of skills resources and participate in e-learning sessions facilitated by expert tutors.
International Youth Parliament 2004
The second session of the International Youth Parliament will be convened in May 2004. IYP2004 will look to build upon the achievements of IYP2000 and mobilise many of the issues and actions that have been developed throughout the IYP network.
The IYP Globalisation Campaign
The IYP Globalisation Campaign seeks to harness the opportunities of globalisation through joining youth across the world to work towards global goals: sustainable livelihoods, equity in trade, peace, environmental health, education for all and cultural diversity. It aims to tackle globalisation's negative effects whilst ensuring its benefits reach all young people.
