We envision a world in which human connection to land, vibrant communities, healthy ecosystems, and democratic decision-making are the foundation for just and sustainable life on Earth.
The International Accountability Project (IAP) challenges destructive development projects that uproot and impoverish millions of people across the Global South. Working with grassroots and international partners, IAP advocates for international policies that respect the rights and livelihoods of people threatened by unjust development and supports communities to hold their ground and defend their homes, environment and human rights.

Working with grassroots and international partners, we demand accountability in international development.
To ensure structural commitments that respect human rights and the environment, IAP works to influence international policy, including at the international financial institutions (IFIs); provides strategic, analytical and other campaign support to communities and organizations in the Global South; produces original research and education resources; and mobilizes art and media to amplify the voices of communities affected by development projects.
We are committed to long-term working relationships with communities who are facing or who have undergone forced displacement. We work with them to pursue justice and accountability for the harm they have endured as a result of violations of their rights, and to accomplish systemic institutional change so that other communities do not suffer the same fate.

Democratizing development requires democratizing access to media.
IAP's Arts & Media Program strengthens the capacity of communities threatened with forced physical or cultural displacement to use video, photo, radio and other media as tools for critical documentation, organizing, and empowerment. Through this program we catalyze the use of video and photo in advocacy efforts to democratize development. Learn more about our approach to the politics of Arts & Media in the context of development (http://accountabilityproject.org/article.php?id=244).
