The National Committee was founded in 1957. Until 1970 it was run by the Ecumenical Youth Council of Austria. Since then it has been operating as an independent non-denominational organisation. It has an office with one part-time staff in Vienna. There are many co-workers supporting our programme, most of them former exchangees.

Opportunities for Youth
Volunteers from Europe aged 18 to 30 are offered work placements, 16 and 17 year olds have the possibility to attend school in Austria. For participants from non-EU countries, aged 16 to 18 a family / school programme is offered as Austrian law does not permit their working as volunteers. ...

Placements include child-care centres, youth centres, working with the disabled, the elderly, ethnic minorities, and with environmental groups
